Al owned the Barber Shop until 1982 when he sold it to Rocky Miller and he owned the shop until Charles Merlo and myself JoAnn Egner took over March 1987.
Charles, better known as “CHUCK”, and JoANN, better known as “JO”, were both former employees of AL Perelli and Rocky Miller. The Barber Shop has been kept the same in respect to the operations of the business. We kept the shop as a no appointment necessary, strictly walk in with very little waiting or no waiting for quick but very good haircuts, and friendly service.
We prided ourselves on keeping the old fashion style barber shop giving regular boy’s and men’s haircuts and neck shaves, until the long hair styles became popular. Then we basically stopped the neck shave, however they are always available when requested.
Again, March 1, 1987 Chuck and Jo took over the barber shop under the new name as CJ BARBERS at which time we re-decorated the shop with 6 new barber shop chairs and new back bars, ceiling, wallpaper and a tile floor in the waiting area. We were at the Whitehall Mall as CJ BARBERS until March of 1997 at which time we chose to leave the mall because of the renovations that Kravco(owners of the Mall) were going to turn the Mall into a strip mall and move us in the shopping center, but, because we are an inspected and licensed business, we were unable to stay there.
In March of 1997 we moved to our present location at 2603 Mickley Avenue, Whitehall, PA which is 1 mile north of the former mall address.
We then again re-decorated in a football theme barber shop and fortunately our customers followed.
Unfortunately in April of 1998, Chuck chose to leave the partnership and venture out into another business and I and many customers were sad to see him leave. I worked on and off with Chuck since 1968 and always felt that we were more than just co-workers or partners but friends. But we are happy to report he is now back with me working part time. So it is great to have him back again and the customers are happy to have him back a well, and it is always good to have a male barber on staff.
As sole owner of CJ BARBERS after 2 other partners that didn’t work out for many, many reasons, I feel grateful for a great staff of barbers that I have; 3 of them returning after becoming sole proprietor. They are all fun, happy and cheerful and enjoy cutting men’s, boy’s, women’s, and girl’s hair.
We pride ourselves on giving great haircuts, fast service in a friendly, fun atmosphere.
We are great at all barber cuts, fades, long hair, short hair, FLAT TOPS, and we even SHAVE HEADS. We have done all this and still try to keep our pricing down and /or within reason of our service.
I do consider the customers “my Customers” and try to treat all of them with respect and great service and I would like to thank everyone for their continued patronage and for the word of mouth advertising because we wouldn’t be here without you.
